The obvious that arises is to not steal physically-which all of us realise is not acceptable behaviour in more than just the yogic practice. But where we can bring this into play in our lives is the non stealing of energy from others-either by taking more than they can give or not respecting their precious time and energy. OR the non stealing of energy from yourself by over exerting.
This is a yama which I personally have been struggling with for sometime now and find that a simple reminder in my asana practice or meditation can help in realigning myself with what feels right and centred.
Another way we can respect this Yama within our practice tomorrow is by looking at our attitude to abundance. Stealing arises when we lose control of desire and feel that something is lacking. So in an asana practice, really tune in- is it just fear of lack that is not allowing you to go into the full asana? Or the opposite-are you over exerting yourself and taking too much energy by pushing and not listening to your body? Only you know the answer…
And of course the asanas are just the beginning… this can then extend into so many other aspects of your life.
So thanks for giving me the chance to remind myself of this practice, while I simultaneously remind you guys too.
Peace and Light,
See you tomorrow at YogaPeace 5.30pm and if not-remember that this practice can still be looked at today from anywhere in the world!
